No. I don't like cheating, but it's ok to be resourceful ;-) Besides, Chinese was my easy subject. If I needed to cheat, I'd cheat in.... maybe Filipino haha

| What I learned from job hunting this season |

Ok so my job hunting for a summer job is finally (FINALLY!) over. I have to say though, this year isn't the best. I definitely felt way more lucky when I did it for my first work term and even my second one. I guess I just had to be reminded that life isn't always easy.
I've had my share of misfortunes this year and it's only just starting. I hope that this curse that I seem to have on me right now doesn't last all year long. If it's so bad now, it can't get any worse right? Nothing to worry though, it's not as if I'm terribly misfortuned that I'm sad and depressed. What has happened so far? Failing all my interviews except one, getting sick after my interviews, enduring the downpour of rain while I had to walk around the UBC campus, stepping on the deep murky puddles while I walked, almost hitting a pedestrian while driving AND being called an idiot, studying so hard for a quiz to pick up my grades only to find out that the TA's have no sense of how to mark fairly, falling umbrella first on a crosswalk because I slipped on ice/snow, one academic low after another, and the list continues.
However, it's not so fair to say that life's so bad. In fact, I'll have to say that life is good! I have friends and family who support me in every decision that I have to make. They give me solid advice whenever I needed it. And like I said, my job hunting is over. I have accepted an offer and am very very excited to be flying down to Ontario for the summer. Life Is Good! As for my academic decline, I'm working on it. It just feels like I'm getting dumber every minute, that someone has taken a part of my brain and I want it back! Other reasons I can think of that makes more sense are maybe I lost focus, like posting an entry to my blog right now just wastes time I could have spent studying and like how I stopped programming in the computer lab yesterday to watch two episodes of One Tree Hill on my laptop.
Anyway, this post is supposed to be about what I learned from my job hunting this season so I'll get to that.
Lessons Learned:
1. There's a feeling. You'll know when you'll get the job and you know when you won't.
2. You'll end up with the job that's right for you.
3. In answering interview questions, refer back to what you learned from previous work experiences!
4. Speak freely, but not too freely.
5. Get a good night's sleep the night before the interview!
6. Don't be stuck in one solution. Be creative. Try to think of other solutions if the one you have doesn't work very well.
7. Don't give up on trying to come up with answers. If you still don't have all the answers that the interviewers want from you, keep trying.
8. Some interviewers care about your success, others just don't.
9. Pee when you have to!
10. Have fun.
That's all I have to say. This season was an incredible learning experience for me so success or no success, I am thankful that I wnet through every one of my interviews.

It's been MONTHS since my last post and since I'm too lazy to study my notes more, I decided to keep my blog alive by blogging again. :) It's almost Christmas and with the music playing on my Media Player right now, I actually feel the Christmas spirit. I'm so excited to be celebrating Christmas with my friends and family back home. It's been over a year since I last saw them. It may not seem to be a very long time, but it's been the longest time I spent away from home. Truth be told, I'm getting tired of keeping in touch only through YM or through e-mail. It's just not the same. Lucky for me, I fly home two days from now.
And tomorrow, I finally get my long awaited freedom from school. School just really stresses me out. This term was the worst of my college years. I took an arts class that I did not enjoy. I thought it woul be interesting, but the prof wasn't good at all. Not even a tad bit. He was so bad he made me hate art. Now, whenever I look at a painting or any art work, I don't respect the artist who created it anymore. My computer science courses, though challenging, were very exciting. I loved coding in Java in my Software Engineering class. I enjoyed Computer Networking and learning assembly code in my Operating Systems class was very fun. They were all very challenging, but all the assignments were fulfilling.
Looking back that the year that's almost ending, I feel very satisfied. I'm loving life even more. A lot of good things happened this year and I'm thankful.

So work term 1's done and it went quite well. Better than I had expected and certainly much MUCH funner than I had expected. I just started my second internship with a company here in BC (pro: I don't need to pay for housing; con: I miss the people from my first internship).
Right now, all I can say is "I'm loving life!"

I'm gone from the wonderful world of Seattle/Redmond/Bellevue. Coming back to Vancouver kinda sucked coz it was pouring rain and I was sad about my internship being over (it was just so much fun! they could have made it less fun for me so it would be easier to leave!), but the rain suddenly stopped (right when I was praying for it to stop because I was afraid I would have to carry my bulk of a presentation poster out in the rain and it would get wet) and the clouds were so pretty!! They were shades of pink, purple, orange and blue all mixed together. So pretty.
That's it for now. Going to NY tomrrow! Can't wait!

I've got 2 days left before the end of my internship. Not that I'm counting down. In fact, I'm dreading it. I just spent what seems like the best 4 mos of my life here, seriously. Seriously.
Here's what I've learned so far:
1. People should be inventing a Shrinking machine - you know,.. the one they have in Honey, I Shrunk the Kids? I arrived here with 2 luggages and I'm going back with 2 + lots and lots of plastic bags.
2. We need to invent a teleporter so I can teleport back to Manila or Vancouver whenever I need to and then teleport right back. That would be awesome.
3. This world also needs a time machine for interns who are having so much fun at their work place that they neever want their internships to end.
4. An Effective Decision-maker. I can't decide whether to quit Co-op or not.
5. Some kind of vehicle for people who don't know how to drive (like me, but it will be fixed soon. My goal this summer is to learn how to drive!)
If I can think of anything else, I'll be sure to post it. Oh!! I know!!!
6. A Washing machine with 3 compartments - one for colored, one for whites and one for delicates. And they can all be washed at the same time.
Ok.. I'm off to packing. Seriously, after moving back and fourth between the Philippines and Canada and between Canada and the US, I really think I'm getting good at packing. Not!

I should have done this on the day itself, but I was too caught up with customizing my livejournal and beeing sleepy, so here's a late post. Two days ago, it was Queen's birthday and we only had Chikka (gotta love free text from the internet) as a means of communicating with each other. She was on a road trip with her family in Australia and I was in my bedroom, staring at my laptop until my eyes closed. Oh well, I'm just glad that I didn't forget to greet her this time. And it was good that I thought of checking the time and date in Australia online, otherwise I would have greeted her a day later and that wouldn't have been excusable.
Queen's been my best friend since High school. We had been study partners and lunch buddies for as long as I can remember. Conveniently for us, we lived close to each other. I remember working on one project after another until way past midnight, and then either her dad would bring me home or my dad would come pick me up. Those were the days. I certainly don't miss the stress (not a day goes by that I'm not thankful that high school is over), but d*mn I sure miss our bonding sessions. I remember we used to talk non-stop on the phone. Sometimes, we don't even need to talk; we just stayed on the line until one of us had something to say.
I love Queen because she's always there for me, even when I'm not always there for her (that sounds really selfish of me, I know). She remains to be my closest friend despite me moving to Canada. Aww.. she even sent me chocolate crinkles because MM and I craved for them! Thanks, Queen! I still have the boxes that housed the crinkles. I couldn't bring myself to throw them.

Due to bad weather and forgetting to carry my camera on Saturday, I have failed to gather pictures to document this weekend's activities. Hence, I blog. This weekend is all about food -- specifically, comfort food, the food I most LOVE!
To all you foodies out there, if you haven't been to Seattle, you should hop on a plane the first chance you get and start your food spree the minute you set foot on Seattle soil. This city has countless restaurants! They're all over the place! Chinese, JAPANESE, ITALIAN, American (comfort food?), Vietnamese, Indian, Mexican, etc etc. They're all here and they're all good!
Last week, I went to an Italian restaurant that's run by a Chinese chef. Can you say "Why not?" in Italian? I could! The name of this restaurant is "Perche no Pasta?" which means "Why not pasta?" I had doubts when my friends told me that the chef was Chinese but as soon as I took my first bite of the appetizer which consisted of Portobello mushrooms, I immediately made up my mind that the food in Perche no pasta is not a waste of stomach space. I don't usually like mushrooms, but this dish was GREAT! The texture was firm and the taste of mushroom wasn't very strong, just the way I like it. :D Also on the table were Squid ink pasta, Sardines on foccacia and Cannelloni with chicken, pork and beef. My favorite was the Cannelloni. With all the meat stuffed inside, I was surprised that I wasn't feeling extremely bloated afterwards. The pasta sauce was light and the tomatoes tasted fresh.
This weekend, we wanted comfort food and boy did we show it. We had lunch at Geraldine's Counter. If you like Mac and cheese, they cook it damn well at Geraldine's! They put jalapenos in it to give it a unique flavor. It's a tad bit spicy and you can really smell the cheese. They serve it in a big bowl too, so it might be a better idea to share. We also had a BLT sandwich and the white corn omelette. We requested our BLT to be served with yam fries instead of the normal potato and when i bit into my first fry, I felt like that was the best decision I've ever made. The fries were thin and long and crunchy! They sprinkled it with just the right amount of salt and the yam was sweet which complimented the saltiness perfectly! Sweet and salty is always a good combination for me. The omelette tasted amazing as well! The eggs were cooked to perfection --- again, that word, this meal was perfect. We didn't have dessert anymore since we had cookies and biscotti from Columbia City bakery (Another place to visit) across the street. We stopped by a couple of Filipino food stores on the way home. This made me realllly happy coz I miss Filipino food!!!! I bought biko, puto, turon, guinataan, kare kare, and afritada. Whoot! Then on Sunday, we had dinner at Issaquah Cafe, but this isn't one of those places I need to rave about. After the restaurants I've been to during my stay in Seattle, all I could say about this one is that it's unsatisfactory. The kids ordered Mac and cheese and they served what looked like Kraft boxed dinners. Mindy ordered Meat loaf which is good enough, but I've tasted better. I only had half a Monte Cristo sandwich and it tasted a lot like french toast. There wasn't enough meat and cheese on it.
Aside from eating, we also went to Auburn mall to shop. We spent most of our time in Nordstrom Rack. I got a Roxy jacket that costs 19.97 dollars compared to its original price of 42 dollars. I'm happy with my purchase! I love my new jacket. I also went to Walmart to get more supplies for my project and to buy a muffin pan for the cornbread I'm planning on baking for my team.

| Bellevue Square - the Best Place to Shop |

Before I came here, my favorite mall probably would have been Oakridge Center in Vancouver, but now that I have seen Bellevue Square, boy have I changed my mind. Bellevue Square is BIG and te hops that they have there are fantastic. They have Hollister, Abercrombie and Fitch, Papersource, Crate and Barrel, and the list goes on. The only disappoinment for me was that they didn't have Bath and Body Works. Well, at least I hadn't seen any. It might be there and I just didn't see it. Another rave about the mall is the restaurants they have. All the best ones I know are there. Heck, they even have Ruth's Chris! Not that I would eat in Ruth's Chris all the time, but I remember that place serving the best steak I've ever tasted. They also have Cheesecake Factory and PF Chang's, both of which I have yet to try.
Yesterday, I went out with a couple of other interns to just hang out and relax after a stressful week at work. We all have a load of tasks on our plate and we just want to relax for a bit and eat something other than the food in the cafeterias in You-Know-Where. Unfortunately, Cheesecake Factory and PF Chang's were both full and would require us to wait over an hour just to get a table so I recommended us going to World Wrapps. The last time I went there, I had the salmon wrap with avocado, jasmine rice and wasabi mayonnaise. This time, I went with the Spicy Carribean Sole Wrap with mango salsa and ginger slaw. I would have ordered the Bombay Chicken Curry wrap, but it was Friday and it's Lent, so I can't have meat. :( I'm sure God will give me another chance to go there and try the curry wrap, right? Hee Hee. After dinner, we just walked around the mall. Jaime wanted to get a pair of shoes so we went to Nordstrom to look for them. Man, that place is expensive! They sell a shirt for 95 bucks, I was told. I didn't even bother looking at the prices anymore. Then, after Nordstrom, we remembered passing by a Lego store on the way to Cheesecake Factory and apparently, the boys I was with adore Lego. So we went there to check it out. As soon as we entered the store, the Jaime and Justin couldn't stop exclaiming about how cool the Lego toys were over there, and pretty soon, I was exclaiming with them. I think I was converted to a Lego fanatic. They have Legos for everything! They have Lego coasters, Lego magnets, Lego salt and pepper shakers, Lego keychains... everything! I was sooo tempted to buy them, but I already exceeded my budget for food that day, so I stopped myself and decided I'd get them some other time. If I had my own house, I'm going to decorate it with Legos. My playroom would have a wall of Legos just like in the store. Color was everywhere and I just fell in love with it. gigafelly, I saw something I can buy for you next time :D If only my younger brother is as easy to please as gigafelly, I would have gotten tons of stuff for him already. Unfortunately, he's asking for a car from me, so no can do. There's a Legoland in California and I'm getting on a plane and flying over there tomorrow. Who wants to come with me?
Before heading home, we stopped for ice cream at Mora. I liked the texture of the ice cream, but I didn't enjoy the flavor I got very much. I had strawberry cream which tastes a lot like other strawberry ice cream. And you wouldnt believe I had 8 oz, of it. Whoa! I think I just splurged on food yesterday coz I was feeling crappy all week and was working 7-7, but it's not the company's fault. I'm really just a workaholic.

I suck at coming up with titles and since I'm pressed for time, you have to live with my very uncreative (is that the right prefix? anyhoo...) "Best Pie Ever," but hey! it accurately describes the subject of today's post.
By pie, I meant pizza pie. I've been spending most of my weekends with my family friends and they love dining out. Luckily, they always invite me to tag along. During one of our eating sprees, we went to downtown Seattle to check out a pizza place owned by someone who supposedly opened up a chain of restaurants within the area. The seating arrangement they had inside is perfect for a busy pizza place. They had HUGE and high tables, each having a divider that can be placed anywhere on the table. So when people come in parties of four, they can just place the divider such that two other people can come and join their table and still have their own privacy.
Anyway, onto the menu.. I was surprised to see that there were only around 8-10 items on the menu. Indecisive as I am, I actually like having fewer choices. Most of the items on the menu were pizzas. They had a couple of soup options and a few desserts. Normally, I would be eager to read the dessert section first, but having read the variety of flavors they have on their pies, my eye was on the main dish this time around. We ordered the mushrooms and truffle cheese pizza, the clams, house pancetta and lemon thyme pizza and the spicy bomb peppers and sweet fennel sausage pizza. As soon as I took a bite of each of them, I knew that we had made the right decision. Each pie was generously topped with their said ingredients. They were fresh, crisp and not too oily! I absolutely loved them. In fact all of us enjoyed our meal so much that we went back there for dinner to try the other flavors! For dinner, we had the potato, rosemary and olive oil pizza and the green eggs and ham pizza! I love eggs, so I enjoyed the green eggs and ham pizza the most. I miss Filipino food. I miss the restaurants in the Philippines. I miss Jollibee, Omakase, Via Mare, Krocodile, Angel's Kitchen, did I say Omakase? I miss hanging out with my friends, Sundays with my family and my ex-co-workers, This is the longest time I've been away from home.
Then again, I love it here. and I love it in Richmond. I wish I could teleport.
